Leaning on the railing of the lighthouse, Rolf sighed with pleasure as he gazed at the ocean far below. The morning sun was warm on his head. A pair of arms crept round his chest and his love pressed her face onto his back. Going on tiptoe, she kissed the nape of his neck.
“I’m so glad you decided to keep the lighthouse, Rolf. I love our house down on the sea front, but it’s so nice to come here sometimes.”
Rolf turned and pulled her into his embrace. “And what a great idea of yours to let the lighthouse out to summer visitors, my darling. Most find the setting unusually appealing, especially the old seafaring types who are like this old codger here and love to be near the sea. And the artistic couple who come here for inspiration certainly love it.”
Hanno chose that moment to poke his head between them. Brigid laughed and patted his head. “I know, boy, you want to go for a run, don’t you?” The dog’s tail wagged fit to drop off. “Just one moment and then we’ll go. But first, I have something to do.”
She cupped Rolf’s chin as their lips met and it was the same as it always was, always had been through time, in the past and into the present, and would be in the future. Theirs was an everlasting love.
