Set Up a Summer Entertaining Station

Get ready for outdoor-party season by stationing an armoire in a convenient spot—such as within easy access of a porch or patio—for holding the essentials. This one was painted inside and out, given a stylish backsplash with mirrored tiles, and custom-fitted with clever storage supplies: bar-glass hanging racks above, adjustable shelving below, with an under-counter slide-out shelf for as-needed prep space, and a towel bar inside the door. Corral smaller items like spoons in vessels that can be carried to the tables; keep baskets and trays for serving and transporting. Once summer is over, simply swap out the linens and other accoutrements for all your fall and winter (indoor) gatherings.

Planning ahead is key; as is being prepared to bargain.

Clean

Fans help to cut down on air-conditioning costs. Once a week, use a microfiber duster on an extension handle to dust fan blades and fixtures. For a deep-clean: Turn off the fan and stand on a steady ladder. Remove the light fixture cover. Use a soft cloth to apply a cleaner (household cleaner or oil soap for fan blades, glass cleaner for lightbulb covers); dust cool lightbulbs with a dry cloth.
