Clever color-coding and intentional placements help this closet accommodate kids’ and grown-ups’ belongings alike.
1. Assign a color to hangers (using paint or ribbons) for each family member; same for baskets up top, which are striped with fabric paint (you could also use labels). Remember to leave room (and, if you like, designate a color) for visitors’ gear.
2. Mount hooks at a height kids can reach for hanging jackets and backpacks; same for slim baskets that hold mittens and homework.
3. In lieu of wooden boot shapers, a simple binder clip at the top of rain boots will keep them standing upright; first let them dry outside the closet, on a boot tray or doormat.
