Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from some furniture, paints, and other household items can impact air quality and your health. Take steps to drive out these and other unwanted elements:
- Store paints, solvents, adhesives and other chemicals outside the living space, and look for green cleaning products when you shop.
- Open windows for at least 15 minutes a day—such as when taking a shower, cleaning, or cooking—in all four seasons.
- Use a HEPA air purifier (for centralized AC units), or place a freestanding unit in the rooms where you spend the most time.
