Chapter Twenty-Two

INT. GUESTHOUSE – LATE MORNING

There’s an energy in the air as if invisible strings of electricity are trailing around the room.

Cam sits on the couch in Reese’s usual spot, computer in his lap, but his eyes are on Reese sitting in the chair adjacent to him and reading a script. He scrolls through his cell phone while humming a familiar tune.

Reese pretends to be reading a script but she’s really sneaking glances at Cam, her interest no longer disguised under long eyelashes. Her phone pings with a text. She lifts it off the coffee table.

REESE

(a smile blooms across her face)

Shining Star?

CAM

Yep.

Reese presses her thumb to her phone screen and music starts to play. She bops her head and sings along to the song by Earth, Wind & Fire.

Cam watches Reese with unabashed delight even though she sings off-key and mistakes some of the words.

Reese finishes singing. Now it’s her turn to scroll through her phone. Cam’s phone pings with a text. He checks it out. Grins.

REESE

Sing it with me, Cameroni!

Cam gives a small shake of his head while his mouth twists in sweet joy. He presses his thumb to the screen and music starts to play.

REESE

and getting him in her life)
