ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

We would like to acknowledge and express our gratitude to the many people who have contributed to the success of the American Harvest Workshop over the years. First and foremost: the visiting chefs, who bring their passion and love of cooking to our winery each year; and the amazing purveyors, close friends all, who have donated so much time and knowledge to this unique event. Thanks also to the Napa Valley Potters for sharing their craft with us; to Workshop co-founder Bill Shoaf, who shared Jack’s vision of bringing hospitality people together to learn from each other; to Narsai David for his friendship and early support; to Michael Weiss for contributing his food-and-wine-pairing expertise to the Workshop every year; and to photographer and friend Terry McCarthy for capturing so many memorable Workshop moments.

We are also indebted to our hard-working hospitality staff, including resident chef Thomas Sixsmith, who assisted in testing recipes for the book and is responsible for the beautiful meals enjoyed by our winery guests; to Brenda Godinez for teaching us about the cooking of her native state of Michoacán; and to Marcy Snowe, our gardener, who supplies the winery kitchen with astonishing produce all year long. Thanks also to freelance pastry chef Jennifer Contreras, who helped in refining some of the dessert recipes in the book.

We are grateful to editor Julie Bennett and the team at Ten Speed Press for helping us realize our vision for this second Cakebread Cellars book. Working with Ten Speed was just as enjoyable the second time around. We thank food photographer Marshall Gordon and food stylist Dan Becker for helping to make these recipes look so appetizing, and we thank Janet Fletcher for telling the story of the American Harvest Workshop so well. As big fans of her writing, we feel fortunate to have been able to collaborate with her on this project.
