Acts 12:1–19
“Take these chains off so I can sleep,” Peter said. When the guards didn’t answer, Peter leaned back against the prison wall.
Why am I in prison anyway? Peter thought. I didn’t do anything except teach people about Jesus. He tried to sleep, but the guard chained to him was snoring loudly.
It was very late when Peter finally fell asleep. Suddenly a bright light shone into his cell and woke him.
Peter opened his eyes and saw an angel standing in front of him.
“Get up and get dressed,” the angel said. Before Peter could say a word, the chains fell off his arms and legs. The angel motioned for Peter to follow him through the prison, past the sleeping guards, and out the door. Soon Peter was standing on the street outside the prison.
“Thank you,” Peter turned to say, but the angel was gone.
He hurried to see his friends, who were praying for him. At first the servant who came to the door was so shocked to see him that she forgot to open it for him. Finally Peter rushed in and told everyone how God had saved him.
Becoming a Man of God
A man of God is saved by God.
Peter was in prison because he was a Christian. King Herod didn’t want him teaching about Jesus. God sent an angel to lead him out of prison; he saved Peter from whatever King Herod had planned.
God takes care of his children. Thank him for his salvation and protection in your life.
A Verse to Remember
The LORD guards you as you come and go,
now and forever.
