Appendix C: Ten Ways You Can Encourage Someone Else to Go Vegan

  1.  Take them to visit a sanctuary for farmed animals.

  2.  Invite them to a vegan potluck or other vegan-related event.

  3.  Watch a video such as Blackfish, Cowspiracy, Earthlings, The Ghosts in Our Machine, Food Inc., Live and Let Live, or Vegucated together—and then discuss it.

  4.  Give them a copy of your favorite vegan cookbook and encourage them to try a recipe.

  5.  Bring them a delicious, home-cooked vegan meal.

  6.  Resist the urge to preach—no one likes a pushy vegan; instead, lead by example. Emphasize the benefits of being vegan rather than whatever challenges you may face.

  7.  Donate copies of your favorite vegan cookbooks and animal rights books to your local library.

  8.  Ask family and friends to be vegan on your birthday or for a day in lieu of holiday gifts.

  9.  Treat them to lunch or dinner at your favorite vegan restaurant.

10.  Go grocery shopping with them, encouraging them to try new fruits and veggies and showing them how many plant-based foods and household products not tested on animals are available.
