Chickpea Shrimp (Pazili—Nohutlu Karides)

Ingredients
1 small onion, sliced
1–2 cloves garlic, sliced
¾ cup canned chickpeas, rinsed
Bunch of red Swiss chard, stemmed
5–6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
¼ cup canned crushed tomatoes
1 tablespoon red pepper paste
10–12 raw tiger shrimp, peeled and deveined
¾ cup water
Salt and ground pepper to taste
Red pepper flakes to garnish
Directions
  1. Arrange the chard leaves on one another. Roll and cut julienne style.
  2. Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a deep saucepan or cooking pot.
  3. Add the onion; stir-cook for 3–4 minutes until soft and fragrant.
  4. Add the garlic and stir-cook until fragrant.
  5. Add the remaining ingredients except for the shrimp.
  6. Cover and cook until the veggies are softened and the juices are reduced.
  7. Add the shrimp and stir-cook for 2–3 minutes until they turn pink.
  8. Stop heating and season with some red pepper flakes. Serve warm.
