Whatever you do, give it your very best, as if you were working for the master [God] and not for human beings.—Colossians 3:23
Brainy Tip: Persistence and discipline are essential to mental and physical wellbeing.
We all have times in our lives when we just feel like being “Netflix and chill” lazy. I mean, do we really have to do that task? Do we really have to write that paper? Do we really have to clean that kitchen? Let’s face it: we don’t always want to “give our very best,” especially when a new season of our favorite TV show is available!
Yet our minds and brains are designed to thrive when we push through and try our best. The harder we work, the more disciplined we are in completing a task, the more our brain grows in a positive direction and the more our intelligence increases, improving the health of not only our brains but also our bodies. We should treat every task we are faced with as a gift from God to help us grow and develop as human beings, even if we don’t necessarily get it right the first time. Failure is not the end of the world—it is the beginning of new growth in the brain. Indolence and giving up, however, can negatively impact our mental and physical wellbeing.
