I’m leaving you peace. I’m giving you my own peace. I don’t give gifts in the way the world does. Don’t let your hearts be troubled; don’t be fearful.—John 14:27
Brainy Tip: Thinking about a problem can transform it into a reality that steals your peace; thinking about a solution can transform it into a reality that will bring you peace.
Epigenetic changes represent a biological response to an environmental signal, the dominant of which is your thought life. That response can be inherited through the generations via the epigenetic marks. But if you remove the signal, the epigenetic marks can begin to fade.
By the same token, if you choose to add a signal—for example, saying something like, “My mother had depression and that’s why I have depression, and now my daughter is suffering from depression,” then the epigenetic marks can be activated, making this a reality in your life. Constant thinking and speaking about a problem serve as the signal that makes it real, so watch what you think and say.
