The purpose of all this is so that you may run away from the corruption of lust that is in the world, and may become partakers of the divine nature. So, because of this, you should strain every nerve to supplement your faith with virtue, and your virtue with knowledge, and your knowledge with self-control, and your self-control with patience, and your patience with piety, and your piety with family affection, and your family affection with love.—2 Peter 1:4–7
Brainy Tip: We have to control what we think if we want to speak and act in love.
An undisciplined mind is filled with a continuous stream of worries, fears, and distorted perceptions that trigger degenerative processes in the mind and body. We cannot afford not to bring all thoughts into captivity to the Messiah. Catching our thoughts is necessary because it calms our spirits so we can tune in and listen to God and live according to his love—we can “[partake in] the divine nature” of God.
