Stay in control of yourselves; stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is stalking around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.—1 Peter 5:8
Brainy Tip: The more you focus on something negative, the more power you give to the negative.
Attention is like watering a plant. The more you water a plant, the more it grows. Likewise, the more attention you give to a thought, the more it grows in your head. If these thoughts are positive, then the water is life-giving. If these thoughts are negative, however, then the water is poisonous.
Remember, your brain is plastic—it can change and it can grow. Like positive thoughts, toxic thoughts also grow in your brain, but not in beneficial ways. Toxic thoughts upset the chemical feedback loops in your brain by putting your body into a harmful state. The growth in your brain will not be intelligent or life-enhancing. Instead, these thoughts weigh down your whole body, mind, and spirit. Your brain will grow heavy, with thick memories that release their toxic load and interfere with optimal functioning. You will lose your sense of peace and ability to think, speak, and act wisely.
