When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I am not afraid; what can flesh do to me?—Psalm 56:3–4
Brainy Tip: We do not have to live our lives afraid and defeated.
Although we feel the pull of the sensory information coming into our minds, we don’t have to be controlled by the events and circumstances of the world. We need to keep reminding ourselves that we cannot control life’s events and circumstances—but we can control our reactions to them.
We don’t have to just react to what happens to us or accept what comes our way without fighting back with our minds and our choices. We can take the time to slow down and think about how we should react—about how we can overcome whatever life throws our way. After all, giving up is a choice. If we build healthy, encouraging, and determined thought patterns into our minds, we can change the way we respond to the circumstances of life, thereby changing the way we live our life. We do not have to live our lives as if we have already been defeated.
