A year later
Ethan and Alexander are lovely children. Both have a pretty good temper, and now that they’ve started walking, I can’t relax for a moment. Max says Ethan is as troublemaker as I was. He sneaks out the crib so many times, dragging Alexander with him, that I lose count. We decide to set their room differently, changing the furniture and letting them have normal beds. Alexander is the smartest baby I know. At six months he started to open the door and crawl into our bed. He loves cuddles more than Ethan but he's a Mommy’s boy more than his brother.
Angel is the best big sister in the world, and Nellie has become like a sister to me—or, rather, a real sister in law. Max and Nellie got married too, a few months after our wedding.
Juggling between work and being a mom is the hardest thing ever. The time zone kills me, and I know sooner or later I need to get back on active duty. Logan wasn't happy when I told him, not because I'd go to some war zone but because he won't be there. For now, Hewitt is doing a pretty good job and Alec wants more recruits. Each file I read, I toss them aside. Alec tells me to go back to Italy for a new project he's working on. After all those years, each time he has something stupid in his mind, he wants to drag me in it.
February fourteenth has always been a romantic day. We decide to leave the children with Nanny Emily while we go out on a double date.
Nellie and I have become very close. In fact, at the end of our dinner, we each put a small gift in front of our husbands. They look at each other suspiciously before taking them.
Max opens his first, widening his eyes. “Are we expecting a baby?” he asks, surprised, and Nellie nodded.
“Congratulations!” I squeak happily as I embrace them both. “It was about time, guys!”
After the strictly non-alcoholic toast, Nellie urges Logan to open his as well. As soon as he unwraps it, he gets up and picks me up, kissing me. I know he tried many times to get the tickets for Disneyland, failing all the time, but I know some tricks and I finally got the tickets for all of us.
"You know I'm not that good with surprises."
"It's one of the best gifts I've ever received, love. Angel and the boys will be thrilled."
"I'm sure so."
"Thank you, baby. I love you."
“I love you more, Logan.” I whisper, brushing my lips with him.
