Dive Partner

Beneath the water’s surface is our mindfulness hour. Preparing to dive, shouts offshore alarm us! Eerily, from the morning fog, 101 Haitian refugees cling to a makeshift boat adrift. Some swim euphorically toward us, tears falling from their hollow faces. Shouts of “Miami” echo. We sob back, “No, Cuba!”
