When The Crows Came for Me

Straight up, a single crow cawed repeatedly atop the highest branch of my oldest tree, pausing between cries as though listening, its silences consistently paced. Suddenly the bird was soaring downward, behind it another crow, following the plunge, then a dozen more, cawing in pursuit, darkening the sky, overshadowing everything.
