5.5    Summary

Modeling in SAP BW/4HANA is based on the Eclipse-based UI via the BW modeling perspective of SAP HANA Studio. In this chapter, we described the modeling objects available in SAP BW/4HANA in detail, from the smallest units of modeling in SAP BW/4HANA (InfoObjects) to InfoProviders, including Open ODS views (mainly used for data virtualization of external sources), Advanced DSOs for data persistency, and CompositeProviders acting as the logical layer. We also discussed the concept of field-based modeling, which enables SAP BW/4HANA to consume external data as-is, in a flexible, agile fashion without the need of data staging or integration.
