William M. Arkin is an independent writer and one of America’s premier military experts, having first served in army intelligence in West Berlin during the Cold War and since then working on national security matters in nongovernment organizations and activist groups, journalism, government, and academia. He has written more than a dozen books, consulted for the military and the United Nations, briefed hundreds of top military, intelligence, and government officials, and been a part of countless exposés. Few can match the breadth of his experience, whether revealing government secrets or working in war zones to evaluate the nature of modern warfare. Working for the Washington Post, he conceived and coauthored the landmark “Top Secret America” investigation, and he cowrote the national bestseller of the same name with colleague Dana Priest. He lives in Vermont.
