Shabbat/ReturnĀ

image

I RETURNED TO MY HOMETOWN

as a man asked to spy for his country

when I arrived

It was like I never left

when I left

It was like I never came back

I returned to my hometown

as a man called to return to his mother's uterus

after not seeing her since his birth

When I returned I found

no mercy, no love

and no milk

I returned to my hometown

to find my childhood steps

And I found them in every street, steps

of one leg, because since my departure

I never learned to walk on my own two legsĀ

I returned to my hometown

as man called to clarify that his dream was erased

and found that it only grew

because my hometown is my hometown

only when I am in it.
