CONCLUSION

Reversing the Diabesity Epidemic

One in three children born in America today will become diabetic if current trends continue. One in two Americans will have diabesity by 2020, and 90 percent won’t know it. This is the world’s biggest health epidemic, but it is nearly 100 percent preventable.

We don’t need more research. The 10-year follow-up of the Diabetes Lifestyle Prevention Trial and the current Look Ahead Trial using intensive group lifestyle treatment prove that lifestyle intervention in groups is much more effective than medication in preventing diabetes. It is also the most powerful treatment if you already have diabetes or pre-diabetes.

The science is clear. We have enough information to solve this problem now, but no one is calling for action or mobilizing a global campaign to address it. We fight AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis all across the globe. But when confronted with a problem that causes more deaths than all those infectious diseases combined, we are silent.

My hope is that each of you will transform your biology from diabesity to vibrant optimal health. Then you will understand the power you have to change your genes and your health by changing what and how you eat, supporting your biochemistry and metabolism with supplements, moving your body, learning to deeply relax, and living clean and green.

You have the power to avert health problems by learning how to support your body so it can function optimally.

You also have the power to become part of a movement to “Take Back Our Health”—a clear solution using the power of food and lifestyle to prevent, reverse, and even cure most chronic illness, the cause of endless personal suffering and an unsustainable burden to our global economies and social fabric. We don’t need new discoveries. We just have to apply what we already know, so that our children and their children can live in a world free from diabesity, healthy and fully engaged with life.

The Blood Sugar Solution is a personal plan for you to get healthy, for us to get healthy together in our communities, and for us to take back our health as a society.

And it starts with each one of us.
