For many locals and expats, alfresco dining at any of the seafood restaurants on the outlying islands is a highlight of Hong Kong. You’ll also find a good choice of small international restaurants and bars, many close to the waterfront.

It’s hardly a destination restaurant, but if you don’t fancy one of the lively open-air seafood joints by the pier, try this small Nepalese place just up the road.

Rainbow runs a free shuttle from Central Pier 9. Garlic prawns and lobster in 10 kinds of butter are signature dishes.

Sampan Seafood

Open from 6am, dim sum is served alfresco until around 11am. Go up to the counter and check out the baskets. A la carte menu for lunch and dinner.

With its exposed brickwork and white tablecloths, this is a semi-trendy spot in the middle of Yung Shue Wan. The western food is good, but the real reason to come is the outlook over the bay.

The Waterfront

Five minutes from the ferry pier, the Waterfront offers tasty fare from around the globe and has a kids’ menu – rare in these parts. Great sunset views.
