What Happens to You When You Die?

What happens to you when you die? Nothing. You’re dead. You are a temporary manifesting of a singular reality: God, Brahman, Nature, the Universe, Mother, the Happening happening as all happening. When you die, the unique manifesting that is you ceases to be, but manifesting continues—just not as you.

Our obsession with the afterlife reflects our addiction to this life, to this particular manifesting we identify as “me.” But if we identify with the whole rather than the part, the need for an afterlife is moot.

We cling to notions of an afterlife for the same reason we cling to notions of this life: we simply can’t accept the fact that in the eyes of the universe we are no more special than a slug.
