Do Ask
There is one question holy rascals always ask, though we rarely ask it abstractly: Can you laugh at what you believe?
Our goal isn’t to make fun of what others believe or to mock those who believe it, but to skillfully pull back the curtain that masks the absurdities of belief systems and that protects those who benefit from them. If people can laugh at their beliefs, they have taken a huge step toward freeing themselves from them. As Alan Watts once said, “Real religion is the transformation of anxiety into laughter.”14
Perhaps the mission of those who love mankind is to make people laugh at the truth, to make the truth laugh, because the only truth lies in learning to free ourselves from insane passion for the truth.
