Memes to an End
Religious memes are images, ideas, and texts carried by story, theology, ritual, symbol, and music that shape our thinking about God, self, other, morality, ethics, life, and the afterlife. Holy rascals subvert religious memes to disrupt unthinking acquiescence to whatever it is a religion posits as true. Our goal isn’t to dismiss the memes of religion but to encourage people to think about them critically by looking at them humorously.
Potent memes can change minds, alter behavior . . . and transform cultures. . . . Whoever has the memes has the power.
