Hey Voracious Reader,
Since you’re currently not at camp, and I don’t know your new camp address yet, I thought I would send you an email. I guess technically, we already broke our pact when we talked on the phone.
Last night we went to a listening party. We got to hear and rate music from new artists signed to LaLaRue. It was cool. I think it would’ve been something you enjoyed because it wasn’t loud, there was no alcohol, and everyone wore headphones to listen to the music at their own pace. We got back sort of late, so I figured you probably wouldn’t be up.
I know you’ll do well at the wedding. Your voice is incredible; a God-given gift. If it helps, picture me sitting in the front row.
I looked up some stage fright helpers. The number one thing I saw is to shift your focus to the purpose of what you’re doing. Think about why these people specifically asked you to sing. Think about the lyrics you’re singing and what they may mean for that couple. Express the words like you mean them. If that doesn’t work, you can always try that thing where you picture everyone naked.
Lyrics are just poetry put to music. And speaking of poetry, you mentioned wanting to read some more of my poetry, so here it is.
Homesick
Smiles
Warm hugs
Wafting fragrances that tickle my nose and awaken me from sleep
Deep belly laughs
Baking things in the kitchen
Secrets that we used to keep
Photos on my phone
Yummy comfort foods
I miss you so deep
Your face
Your hair
The scent of your skin
Your eyes
Your arms
My closest kin
I’m homesick even when I’m home because I can’t see you
Never knew homesick could mean missing a person too.
