That evening Kathryne sat at her desk, deciding to write a letter to Miss Chamberlain informing her of the news of a baby on the way. The last letter that she had received from her had stated that two more girls had left the manor to marry, and three more had moved in. Kathryne had known one of the girls that had left.
Near her, Dancing Bear slept quietly in his crib. He was such a good baby, and soon he would have a brother or sister to keep him company. With her baby and Carlita’s, the house would soon be filled with the laughter of little children.
She sat down and looked out of the window. She saw the years from now children outside playing together, never looking at the color of their skin, as they all belonged here. She said a prayer for Gray Wolf and that he and his people were safe, hoping that maybe one day he would come back and see his son; that maybe one day they his people would come back to their own land.
