TOOLS Large jar | Double boiler or two pans | Cheesecloth
INGREDIENTS 1 cup (240 ml) olive oil | 2 tsp mugwort, thinly grated | 2 tsp jasmine | 1 oz (30 g) beeswax | 3 drops sandalwood oil.
Dreams carry subconscious information, and flying ointments are used to induce astral travel and lucid dreams. Historically, they would have contained psychedelics or toxic nightshade plants. Some people used flying ointments to rub on brooms, hence the witch-flying-on-broom stereotype.
This recipe requires more time and effort than most. Pour the olive oil into a large jar and add the mugwort and jasmine. Close the lid and let this oil infuse for at least a month in a cool, dark place.
Once infused, pour the oil through the cheesecloth into the double boiler on a low heat, squeezing out the mugwort and jasmine. Add the beeswax, and slowly warm up the oil—do not overheat or bring to a boil. Once the beeswax and the oil have combined, add the sandalwood oil and stir. Transfer to the jar and let it harden.
Before going to sleep, take a pea-size amount of the salve, rub onto your wrists, and say:
Tonight I fly, in my dreams and in spirit, to a world of wonder, so mote it be.

NOTE For topical use only
TOOLS Mortar and pestle | Airtight container
INGREDIENTS 1 tsp basil | Sprinkle of dried sage | 1 tsp rosemary | 1 tsp comfrey | 3 drops patchouli oil | 1 tsp water | 1 tsp honey | Lighter or matches
Our dreams can at times be prophetic or insightful, delivering messages from our subconscious. They can even be a way of processing past experiences. Tapping into and recalling dreams is another way to work with the energies and subconscious in your path. For this spell, you will make your own incense cones.
Start by cleansing your ingredients, rubbing your hands together until warm, then holding them over the ingredients, saying:
May these ingredients be cleansed and blessed.
With the mortar and pestle, grind together the dry ingredients, stirring clockwise to draw the memories of your dreams toward you. Once the herbs are fine and well combined, add the patchouli oil and mix again. Repeat with the water and lastly the honey. Using your fingers, form pyramid shapes or cones. Let these dry for 1–2 days and then store in an airtight container.
Half an hour before going to sleep, sit by your altar, and light one of your incense cones. Say this incantation three times:
Memories of dreams past, present, and future, come to me easily, so mote it be.
Perform this spell frequently throughout your week for the best results.

TOOLS Paper | Pen | Cauldron | Lighter or matches | Small satchel or bag
INGREDIENTS Flying ointment or 1 tsp peppermint | Pinch of mugwort | Pinch of valerian root | 1 star anise
For this spell, you will set the intention of your dreams, so you may find yourself in that dreamworld when sleeping. This technique can also assist in working toward lucid dreaming.
Before going to sleep, take the paper and pen and write in as much detail as you can about the dreamworld you would like to visit. Visualize this as you write it out, and start imagining all you can see, feel, and hear there. When you have written as much as you can, fold the paper three times toward you, drawing in the dream, then burn it. As the smoke rises, visualize it becoming energy that will reach you in your dreams. At this point, intuitively speak an incantation or say:
I create my dreams to be immersed in a world of fantasy and adventure, so mote it be.
Then, either rub a pea-size amount of flying ointment on your wrists, or fill a small bag or satchel with the peppermint, mugwort, valerian root, and star anise. Cleanse and bless the bag and place it under your pillow.

TOOLS Clear Quartz and/or Amethyst
This technique is called programming, and in this specific instance it is performed to improve your dream recall.
Take a Clear Quartz or Amethyst crystal and cleanse it by smoke, sound, or your own energy. Now hold the crystal in both hands and focus on your intent—to remember your dreams and “record” them using this crystal. Visualize a video recorder inside of it, and say the words:
I program you to record my dreams, may I be able to tap into and clearly recall them, so mote it be.
Place this crystal under your pillow or next to your bed, and tap your crystal before going to sleep, saying “start recording.” In the morning, tap the crystal again and say, “stop recording.”
Meditate with your crystal in your hands to remember your dreams. With time and practice, recalling your dreams will become easier and your memories more vivid.
BEST TIME Anytime, Full Moon
TOOLS Cotton or linen pouch or piece of cloth | Dark blue thread Needle | Dark blue marker
INGREDIENTS 1 tsp lavender | 1 tsp marjoram | 1 violet | 1 star anise | 1 Amethyst crystal
This charm bag is intended to help you have more restful and peaceful sleep, free of nightmares, and is to be placed in or under your bed. Frequently cleanse the bag to release energy and recharge it.
Start by casting a circle, grounding and centering, and cleansing your altar space and tools. Take your piece of cloth or pouch and, using either the thread and needle or the marker, sew or draw on a sigil of good sleep or the rune Laguz. Before tying the pouch to close it, say the words:
Good sleep and rest come to me, banish all nightmares and sleepless nights, so mote it be.
Now tie together your charm bag with the thread. Ground and center and open the circle.
Place your bag under your pillow or near your bed. Before going to sleep, visualize a pulsating shield of energy growing out of the pouch, encompassing you and your bed as well as any partner, children, or pets. Fall asleep knowing you have a shield of protection around you.
