WRITE YOUR OWN SPELLS

If you create your own spell, it will carry your energy, making it more powerful for you. You can also use any spell in this book and adapt it to make it more specific to your intention.

Spells or rituals do not need to be elaborate each time—a spell can be anything into which you invest intention and so it can be easily incorporated into your everyday life. Try to think about the mundane activities you do daily and what their magickal significance would be if used intentionally.

Spellwork essentials

Spell type

Certain spell types are better suited for certain spells than others: jars and charm bags contain energies; sympathetic spells are one of the oldest forms of magick, using one thing to represent another (such as puppets, candles, paintings, and so on); and knot spells tie or release things.

Think about what each form naturally represents, and how you can use it in your spellwork. For example, planting seeds is related to harvesting and drawing things toward you, while using fire releases and cleanses.

Disposing of spells

Some parts of a spell can be cleaned, cleansed, and reused—such as jars, crystals, and other tokens. Some elements need to be placed in the trash—such as salt, which causes soil to become infertile.

Different ways of disposing of the spell can also form part of the spell. Burning any last remnants to fully release the energies of the spell, burying near your home for drawing intentions toward you, burying far away from you if you do not want that energy anywhere near you (such as banishings), or releasing biodegradable and nontoxic ingredients into rivers or oceans can be an important final step.

Always consider that you are not alone on this planet and be mindful that certain ingredients may not be good for local animals and wildlife. When unsure, placing remnants in the trash is fine.
