Nails

Nailed it!

On the tip of each finger and toe, there is a little protective plate known as a nail. While we still don’t know for sure why we have them, some scientists believe that they have evolved in humans from claws of our ancient ancestors. Both fingernails and toenails are made of a hard, flexible substance called keratin, the same substance that helps to make up our hair, the top layer of our skin, and even the hooves on a horse.
