The human body is capable of doing some truly incredible things. It can heal its own bones, recognize at least a million different shades of colors, and create a new layer of skin every month! But perhaps one of the most amazing things the body can do is make other humans!
Introducing . . . the reproductive system! Adults have special cells that work together to create human life. The male cells are called sperm, and the female cells are called eggs
Both are required when it comes to making a human baby. First the male cell (sperm) must find a female cell (egg) and join forces. This process is known as fertilization, and it all happens inside the woman’s uterus. After an egg is fertilized, an embryo is formed. This embryo will grow and develop in that same stretchy uterus for the next nine months until *DING* OUT COMES A BABY!
Since you’re a kid, your reproductive system is still under construction, and that’s okay because you won’t be needing it anytime soon. However, sometime between the ages of eight and fifteen,* your body will begin going through some big changes both inside and out as you move from a kid to an adult! These changes are known as puberty.
