Tempest

At one moment, it was silent in the house and the next moment, I could hear screaming, yelling, and what sounded like fighting upstairs. My heart began to race as I heard the door to the basement swing open and slam against the wall behind it. It only began to beat that much faster as two of Serena’s minions (Jade called them that, so, therefore, I was now calling them that because I didn’t know what else to call them) walked downstairs and grabbed me by the arms.

I braced myself, half expecting to be slammed down to the ground before being met with whips (or fists) again. It was the same thing that they did every time someone came downstairs to see me, but they didn’t this time. Instead, they dragged me up the stairs and onto the main floor of the house.

I caught a little bit of what was going on in the entryway of the house: long story short, everyone was fighting. Serena was blowing through every spell that she knew and was still capable of casting and Maya was nowhere to be seen. To be honest, I wasn’t so sure if it was better she wasn’t there or not. I met Pri’s gaze briefly and he started trying to get to me, but he was quickly stopped by Serena stepping in front of him.

She turned and looked over at her minions and began barking orders at them.

“Get that thing out of here!”

I started to protest as the minions started dragging me along with them again. One of them slapped me across my face and shouted at me to shut up. The sting lingered long after his hand left my face.

“Not just that one, take this one, too.”

Two more minions (one of them I remembered was named Bruce, that gang leader from Spencer’s childhood I was fairly sure, but I couldn’t remember who the other one was) came around the corner and went to grab Priamos, but my brother swung around and started trying to fight them off - using both magic and the more “human” ways of fighting.

“What do you want us to do with them?” One of the men holding me asked as they started to leave. The other was holding my head down so I couldn’t see what was happening.

“I don’t care what you do with Priamos, but keep Tempest alive - he has a lot of magic, so I can use him for my benefit when my magic starts failing again.”

“Yes, Mistress,” the man replied before they really started to take me away and through the house to go out the back door.

I did what I could to resist, but I hadn’t eaten anything other than those pieces of toast Jade made me eat two days ago and I was in a lot of pain from being beaten so much.

Basically, I was useless.

I almost gave in and just went with them when I heard the sound of Priamos letting out a guttural scream. Up until that point, I’d never heard that sound come out of my brother’s mouth, but I had a strong feeling that I knew what it was for and I knew that I wasn’t going to let whoever it was that hurt my brother get away with it.

He would’ve done the same for me.
