I really hated to admit it, but Serena tricked me. After luring me outside, she grabbed me and shoved me against the wall of the house, pinning me against it with the dagger that she’d managed to grab from Maya on the way out pressed up to my throat. It was the same dagger that Maya had used to stab Priamos and I could smell blood on it.
I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t have a weapon, Serena had me backed so far against the wall that I couldn’t fight, and I was awful at spells - especially under pressure. I grimaced as the witch pushed the dagger further into my throat.
“Your time is coming to an end, Miss Porter,” Serena said through bared teeth and a sweet-sounding tone, “Any last words?”
I started to plead with her when I saw Tempest as I saw the look on his face. I knew he had to have some Priamos in him somewhere.
“I think I should be asking you that, High Priestess Serena,” I replied as I managed to get my arms free enough to push her back into Tempest. He then grabbed her and pushed her against the wall once I was out from underneath them.
“Tempest, please... I... I love you,” Serena begged.
I watched as Tempest met Serena’s eyes with a sorry look.
“You don’t love me. You never have.” Tempest hesitated and let out a deep sigh before shoving the knife he had straight into where Serena’s heart would’ve been, ignoring her blood-curdling screams as she continued to beg him to stop. Once he knew she was really dead, he let her drop to the ground and looked at me. He grabbed my shoulders as he looked me over.
“Are you okay?” He asked me, not even stopping to take a breath.
I nodded with a smile on my face, “Yeah, I am now. Thanks to you.”
Tempest nodded a little and started to head back inside, “Come on, let’s go help the others.”
Just as we made our way through the door, we spotted Nadia and Spencer kneeling in front of Priamos, trying to help him. I looked around the room. Maya, “Satan”, nor any of Serena’s minions were anywhere to be seen.
Somehow, though, I doubted that it would be the last time we would see the likes of them.
