HOW TO SURVIVE A WILD ANIMAL BITE

1 Immediately wash the bite out with soap and warm running water, if possible.

The wound can also be treated with an antiseptic such as hydrogen peroxide or an antibiotic ointment.

2 Dress the wound with a sterile cloth or bandage.

3 Capture the animal, if possible.

If the animal is wild and you kill it, preserve its head (but do not freeze it): the brain will be tested for rabies. If the animal cannot be captured, be prepared to give doctors and animal control authorities a thorough description of the animal.

4 Get medical attention as soon as possible.

Then report the bite to animal control authorities.
