––––––––
EDEN REALLY HOPED MADAM Quilla’s prediction about her future would come true. She was desperate to be free from the Immortal Triumvirate’s control. The fact that she was willing to allow a demon to use his evil power to sever her link to them was proof of that.
She was glad for Sebastian’s solid presence at her back when Kade Sinclair put his hand on her shoulder. “Raum?” the warlock said and the demon stepped forward.
“What do you need me to do?” the Demon Guild Master asked.
“Feed me a trickle of your magic,” Kade requested.
Raum put his hand on his ally’s shoulder and demonic magic emanated from him. Eden forced herself not to cringe away at the oily feel of it. While it couldn’t sink into her like her magic could with her victims, it was an unpleasant sensation. Sebastian put one hand on her hip and slipped his other hand into hers. She clamped down on his fingers as the warlock and hell spawn delved into the link that joined her to her overlords.
Kade let his instincts guide him as he examined the binding spell that had been placed on Eden. He sensed it did more than just imprint her targets in her mind, then relay the information that they were dead back to the Immortal Triumvirate. It also blocked her fae magic and dampened her succubus talents. “I can dispel the enchantment, but the Immortal Triumvirate will feel it when it breaks,” he warned the others.
“Will they be able to trace us to this location?” Sebastian asked.
“I highly doubt Lord Dallinar has the capacity to focus long enough to trace anything, except perhaps whiskey fumes to a fresh bottle,” Raum said with a slight twist to his lips. “His alcohol addiction has played havoc with his spellcasting.”
“I can teleport us elsewhere as soon as I’ve severed Eden’s link to them,” Kade said.
“Where will you teleport us to?” Eden asked.
“To my home,” the warlock said. “I’ve warded it so no one can feel it when I cast magic.”
It was on the tip of Eden’s tongue to say her sorceress friend could do the same thing, but she couldn’t say anything with Raum standing right there. She didn’t want to mention Sorcha while she was in his presence.
“Do it, mon amie,” Sebastian requested. “Free Eden from her captors.”
Kade nodded, then he went to work. Deftly weaving a small amount of Raum’s demonic magic into his enchantment, he directed it at the spell that he could feel. It resisted him and he increased his power. Raum’s demonic magic was different to the black magic that had been used to bind Eden, but it was close enough to it to help him dispel it.
Eden felt something come loose in her mind, then a weight seemed to lift off her shoulders. “Is it done?” she asked, voice trembling with hope. The pounding in her head had ceased and she no longer felt the compulsion to kill Sebastian nagging at her.
“It’s done,” Kade replied, then teleported all four of them to his house in the Fae District.
“Do you feel any different, chérie?” Sebastian asked.
“I can’t feel the order from Lord Kreaton to kill you anymore,” she said, touching the back of her head where she used to sense her targets. “I’m pretty sure I’m not linked to the Immortal Triumvirate now.”
“I destroyed the block Lord Dallinar put on your magic,” Kade told her. “Why don’t you try casting a spell?”
Eden only knew one spell. She pointed at the fireplace and sent a blast of fire at it. Instead of a small fireball, a long jet of flame erupted from her finger. It hit the logs and they were blasted all over the place.
Kade erected a shield in front of them all and caught the flying debris with magic. He put them back in the fireplace.
Raum smirked and brushed flakes of ash from his suit. “I’d say your magic has definitely been unlocked,” he said in a chiding tone.
“Oops,” the assassin said guiltily. “I didn’t know that was going to happen.”
“Has your succubus magic been affected?” Kade asked.
“I’m not sure,” Eden replied. As far as she knew, her inner temptress hadn’t been blocked, but there was only one way to know for sure. She called on her succubus magic and it rose to the surface.
Sebastian’s fingers clamped down on Eden’s when he felt how strong she was. Before he could urge her to be cautious, she sent her magic towards the warlock and demon. Both men’s eyes glazed over and they instantly fell beneath her spell. “Careful, mon amour,” the master vampire said. “It would seem Lord Dallinar had hobbled your succubus magic as well as your fae magic.”
Eden had never felt power like this coursing through her before. She knew she could own these two men utterly if she wanted to. She could take over their minds and turn them into her willing pawns. The thought of having a powerful demon like Raum at her beck and call was tempting, but only for a moment. She knew what it was like to be a slave and she wouldn’t wish that fate on anyone. She drew her magic back in and their dazed expressions began to clear.
“What happened?” Kade asked in confusion, shaking his head to clear the fog that had come over his mind.
“I believe we were both just momentarily bewitched, Mr. Sinclair,” Raum said and gave Eden a chiding look.
“Lord Dallinar locked away more of my magic than I’d realized,” Eden said in a subdued tone. “Is the same thing going to happen when I become bonded to Sebastian? Will the spell dampen my abilities?” Sebastian had told her otherwise, but she was understandably concerned.
Kade shook his head. “It won’t dampen any of your abilities,” he told her. “It will boost both of you. You’ll be more powerful as a unit, or so I understand.”
“It will be interesting to watch the bonding spell,” Raum said. “Are you going to cast it now?”
“There’s no reason for us to wait,” Sebastian said. He was still holding Eden’s hand and felt her flinch slightly. Was she having second thoughts about her decision? “You don’t have to do this, Eden,” he said.
Eden turned to face the master vampire and saw genuine concern on his gorgeous face. He would let her walk away if she changed her mind, but she highly doubted Raum would let her get very far. She knew too much about them now. Like it or not, she’d made her decision and there was no going back. “We made a deal,” she said with a small smile. “Kade severed my link to the Immortal Triumvirate and I agreed to become bonded to you.”
“Are you bound by your promises?” the warlock asked her in surprise. He was half fae himself, but he didn’t have that restriction.
“No, but I can’t exactly go back to my old life now,” the succubus said. “The Immortal Triumvirate will most likely think Sebastian killed me when they realize I’m not linked to them anymore. I can’t go home, so I’ll have to find somewhere to hide until we can take them down.”
“You’ll stay with me, of course,” Sebastian decided and received another smile from her. “My home is your home, mon amour.”
“As touching as this is, can we get on with it?” Raum asked in a slightly bored tone. “I have a meeting to attend soon and I don’t want to be late.”
Kade flicked the demon a frown for ruining the moment, but he nodded. “Let’s go to my conjuring den,” he said. The spell and ingredients he needed to complete the binding spell were stored up there.
