Many of the services in this area are seasonal from May until October, depending upon when the roads close for winter. Call for details before you visit.

Jacob Lake is named for Jacob Hamblin, Mormon pioneer and explorer. This small lake sustained Mormon settlers as they traveled along the Honeymoon Trail on their way to get married at the temple in St. George, Utah. Known as the Arizona Strip, this part of the state is geographically separated from the rest of Arizona by the Grand Canyon.

The lodge and bakery at Jacob Lake have saved many AZT travelers from the extreme elements of the Kaibab Plateau.

Groceries

North Rim Country Store, milepost 605, AZ 67, 928-638-2383, northrimcountry store.com; accepts packages. Six miles north of park entrance.

Grand Canyon Lodge at the North Rim (see below) also has a small general store with limited resupply items.

Cafés and Restaurants

Grand Canyon Lodge at the North Rim has a dining room, deli, coffee shop, and saloon. Kaibab Lodge and Jacob Lake Inn (see below) both have full restaurants.

Lodging and Camping

DeMotte Campground, 877-444-6777, recreation.gov: This Kaibab National Forest campground, 18 miles north of the rim on AZ 67, is open May 15–October 30.

Grand Canyon Lodge at the North Rim, 877-386-4383, grandcanyonlodgenorth.com: This is the only lodging inside the park on the North Rim. It offers cabins and hotel rooms and is open May 15–October 15.

Jacob Lake Inn, junction of AZ 89A and AZ 67, 928-643-7232, jacoblake.com: Built in 1929, Jacob Lake Inn has cabins, rooms, a restaurant, a small store with resupply items, and a bakery that shouldn’t be missed. The inn, open year-round, offers discounts and shuttle services to trail users and accepts packages.

Kaibab Camper Village, 928-643-7804, kaibabcampervillage.com: One mile southwest of Jacob Lake on AZ 67, this facility offers tent and RV sites, laundry, and hot showers. Open May 12–October 15.

Kaibab Lodge, AZ 67, HC 64, Box 30, 86022, 928-638-2389, kaibablodge.com: Located 18 miles from the North Rim on Highway 67, the Kaibab Lodge has cabins, a restaurant, and a cozy fireplace you can relax in front of after a day on the trail. Open May 15–November 2.

North Rim Campground requires a reservation; call 877-444-6777 or visit recreation.gov. The campground is open May 15–October 15, with walk-in sites available until November 30 (facilities on the North Rim close on October 15).
