78: FIGHTS GUM DISEASE

Gum disease (also known as periodontitis or periodontal disease) is a very common but painful condition that occurs when your gums recede and food gets trapped in pockets between your teeth and gums, causing bacteria to produce toxins that further inflame the gums. It’s important to take care of your gums; if gum disease is left untreated, bone and gum tissue start to break down. Unhealthy gums can be a sign of poor health in general; the more inflamed your gums are, the more inflamed your body is overall. Patients with gum disease often have diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, asthma, cancer, or one or more of over 120 other health conditions.

With over 47 percent of Americans experiencing such symptoms of periodontitis as bad breath and red, swollen, and bleeding gums, it’s no wonder that people are searching for a natural way to stop gum damage. Peroxide and other ingredients in traditional toothpastes can irritate inflamed gums, which can turn toothbrushing into a painful nightmare.

CBD oil is a newer ingredient popping up in dental care products, and with good reason. CBD oil contains anti-inflammatory carrier oils, cannabinoids, and terpenes that all fight gum inflammation. Using CBD oil toothpaste can help freshen breath, fight bacteria and viruses, and save teeth from damage. Adding a ¼ of a dropper of CBD oil directly to your toothpaste and toothbrush is a quick and easy way to insert cannabinoids deep into the crevices of your gums. (Make sure to brush and rinse normally.) Another quick way to insert CBD oil into your gum care routine is by swishing CBD oil around in your mouth instead of just leaving it under your tongue before you swallow. Because CBD oil is absorbed both under the tongue (sublingual) as well as through the cheek (buccal), this method allows CBD oil to penetrate your gums while still being absorbed into your bloodstream.
