Max and Jill
were coming to stay
for the whole weekend.
Rennie was glad
to spend time
with them.
He made plans
to go to the park.
The kids
loved the rides there.
So did Rennie.
He was getting ready
to pick up the kids.
Then he heard a car
pull up out front.
He looked out the window.
It was Kara,
She had never done that.
He was always the one
to pick up and drop off.
Rennie watched Kara
get out of the car.
She was all dressed up.
She sure has style,
Rennie thought to himself.
He heard
the three of them
coming up the front steps.
He heard the doorbell.
Rennie went to the door.
“Hey,” he said.
“I didn’t think
I’d see you, Kara.”
Kara told Max and Jill
to go out back and play.
She wanted
to be alone with Rennie.
“Rennie,” she began.
“I want to say
I’m sorry.
I think maybe
I acted too fast.
I moved out
when I was angry.
I filed for divorce
right away.
Maybe it was too fast.
Maybe I was
too wrapped up
in myself.”
“Maybe so,”
said Rennie.
“But maybe
it had to happen.
You put up
with a lot from me.
I had
some growing up to do.”
“Maybe,” said Kara.
“You look great,”
Rennie said.
“Is Rick back
in the picture?”
“No, Rennie,”
said Kara.
“I wanted to look good
for you.”
