Bacardi Cocktail

Ironically, the Bacardi Cocktail may not be called that in Cuba. The judgment in a 1936 legal case ruled that unless Bacardi rum is used, it is illegal to call this drink a Bacardi Cocktail. There is debate as to whether or not grenadine should be used, but most recipes call for it.

makes 1 drink

2 ounces white rum, such as Bacardi Light

1 ounce freshly squeezed strained lime juice

1 teaspoon grenadine

Crushed ice

1 maraschino cherry for garnish

Combine the rum, lime juice, and grenadine in a cocktail shaker with crushed ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with the cherry. Serve immediately.
