Dragon Lair, right?” I pointed at the words above the cave entrance.
“Sure do.” He grinned. “Come on, where is your sense of adventure?”
“So just for clarification, if a dragon takes a bite of you, do you die?” I made a face.
“Who says I'd be the one that got eaten?” JerRic was appalled.
“What kind of husband would you be if you let me get eaten?” I teased.
“That's a valid point.” JerRic tilted his head. “Neither of us is going to get eaten. I know the King of the Dragons. He is an old family friend. Even if one of us were injured, we'd both wake up in the real world.” Jer tried to spin it into a positive.
“That makes me feel a little better.” I folded my arms.
JerRic walked over to the cave entrance. “I don't see Firebreath. I would prefer to ask his permission before entering, but we should be fine.”
“It's the word should that has me concerned.” I made a face at JerRic.
He laughed. “Tell a story if it would make you feel better.”
I stared at the sky. “I think I will.” I took a step and touched the entrance. “Annabeth and JerRic will be safe as they enter and as they leave. Anything that tries to harm them will fall asleep immediately.”
“Let's do this.” JerRic flashed a mischievous smile my way.
I rolled my eyes and walked into the cave with him. “It might be helpful if we could see.”
“Sure would.” JerRic moved slightly and a green light lit up the cave.
We followed the tunnels until we were in a large cavern with several dragons. One stood up and let out a low growl. The dragon fell asleep immediately.
“Hey, it worked.” JerRic whispered. His voice bounced off the cave. Several dragons' heads came up, and they fell asleep immediately. “Sorry.” JerRic's tone was remorseful.
We crossed the large cave room and made our way down the tunnel until we entered a smaller room with four dragons guarding a shimmering green stone on the pedestal. A low throaty growl came from the dragons and they fell asleep.
“Good call, Beth.” JerRic's face was full of approval.
“This is why we came?” I walked over and removed the item from the pedestal.
“Yep, the Green Emerald is part of the Quest.” JerRic leaned close. “Let's get out of here.”
“Yeah, I'm not sure how long they will stay asleep.” I turned the Green Emerald over in my hand as we backtracked the way we had come.
We emerged from the cave. I rubbed my eyes. It took them a second to readjust. A pinkish dragon landed a few feet in front of us. I couldn't help my curiosity.
“Who is this?” I pointed to the pinkish dragon.
“Rosie Posie. She is Firebreath's daughter. So I guess she is the Princess of the Dragons.” JerRic pointed to her. “Rosie Posie, this is my wife, Annabeth.” He pointed at me.
“That's the first time you called me your wife.” I hissed.
“Yep.” JerRic leaned forward. “I like it.”
I flashed him an approving smile.
Rosie Posie nuzzled closer. I giggled. I heard a noise off to my right. Rosie Posie ran off to investigate.
