Guru Nanak

Guru Nanak was one of the most prominent Saints of the Bhakti Movement in Medieval India. He is respected as the founder of the Sikh religion. He is also worshipped by the Sindhi community.

EARLY YEARS

Guru Nanak was born in Talwandi, a small village near Lahore, now within Pakistan, in the year 1469 A.D. His father, Mehta Kalu, was an accountant of the government administration. His mother’s name was Mata Tripta Devi. He had an older sister, Bibi Nanaki, who later became his first disciple. From a very young age, Bibi Nanaki felt there was something very Divine about her brother. Guru Nanak started going to school at the age of seven.
