The Guru Granth Sahib, the Holy book of the Sikhs, also has several of his works called the Soordas Bani. It is said that Guru Arjan Dev, the fifth Guru of the Sikhs, created compositions in accordance with the style of Soordas. He has referred to Soordas as Bhagat, and has held him in reverence.
LAST YEARS
Soordas never got married, and he spent the latter part of his life in singing the glory of his Lord and giving lectures on devotion. His singing brought him fame from far and wide and Emperor Akbar became his patron. He lived a simple life until his death in the late sixteenth century.
Soordas’s innumerable melodious compositions are testimony to his greatness as they inspire devotees even today on the path of bhakti.
