Sant Eknath

Sant Eknath was one of the greatest saints of Maharashtra. His big contribution to the society was the spreading of Sanatan Dharma (Eternal Religion) and its philosophy down to the common person. .

EARLY YEARS

He was born in Paithan, Maharashtra in 1533 A.D. Paithan is a revered as a holy place, and in those days, it was a center of Sanskrit learning. His parents died when he was only three years old, and his grandparents raised him. His great grandfather, Sant Bhanudas, was a well-known saint.

At a young age, Eknath became a disciple of Janardana Swami, who lived near his town. Janardana Swami taught him Sanskrit grammar, philosophy and texts from the holy books. Eknath also studied the Jnaneshwari, Sant Jnandeva’s commentary on the Bhagavad Geeta.
