I rarely get sweet cravings, but when I do these are my go-to treat. More often than not I enjoy these after a workout. Loaded with protein and healthy fats—and with an indulgent fudgy texture—they are absolutely delicious. Both maca and cacao have a history of being used to lift mood and energy. Makes 8.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
3 tablespoons cacao powder
2 tablespoons rolled oats, ground to a flour
2 tablespoons vanilla whey protein powder (or vegan substitute)
1 tablespoon maca powder
4 tablespoons natural peanut butter
2 tablespoons rice malt syrup
2 tablespoons water
METHOD
1 Combine your cacao, oat flour, protein powder and maca in a bowl and stir well to combine.
2 Add the peanut butter, rice malt syrup and water.
3 Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are well combined.
4 Using your hands, divide the mixture into eight equal portions and roll into balls.
5 Place the balls in the fridge for at least half an hour to set, then enjoy. They will last 5–7 days in an airtight container, kept in the fridge.
