Chapter 21:  Vastus Station

Broken electronics and images littered the tables and walls of the observatory. Ebban didn’t even move when Param arrived, as though nothing was of consequence aside from his task.

“Is the new observer working for you?” Param asked.

“I think so.” Ebban clumsily zoomed around the forest.

“How is Elaina doing?”

“It looks like she might be okay until Davu attacks her.”

“Has Davu shown signs of insanity?”

Ebban slowly shook his head. “Not yet. I was sure he would have episodes of insanity by now. I don’t understand what happened. Elaina’s telepathic abilities should not be strong enough to stabilize a revgiln. Perhaps she is strong enough to slow the process . . . Assuming she was strong enough to create a telepathic connection.” Ebban gazed at an image of Elaina and Davu flying through the sky.

Param shrugged. He had no idea how telepathic connections worked. “Tell me more about revgiln and vierd.”

“A telepath works with a revgiln during its last month in a shell, after fractures start to form, until it hatches. The telepath is the vierd to the revgiln. If I was a vierd then my revgiln would be called the revgiln of Vierd Ebban, though the idea of me being a vierd is laughable because I’m such a weak telepath.”

“This revgiln is called the revgiln of Elaina?”

“No. Elaina calls him Davu, a human name.”

“Perhaps Elaina named the revgiln.”

“Probably.” Ebban shook his head in confusion. “Can you help me find Master Crevan?  He is supposed to leave today.”

Param took control of the observer and zoomed around until he located the Glanton castle.

Ebban sheepishly studied the way Param maneuvered the observer. “I’m still not good at using the observer controls.”

“You haven’t used it for long and it is a human design. I’m sure it’s different from what you’re used to. The technology is pretty outdated as well.”

Images of the forest and the castle floated across the wall. Param located Master Crevan on a field inside the Glanton castle walls, training soldiers. “Would you like me to put a lock on him?” Param asked.

Ebban stared at the field. “Yes.”

Param locked the observer onto Master Crevan. “There you are. We need to access a panel in your room to fix the lights.”

“Go ahead.”

“I’ll see you later then.”

Param took a last glance at the wall to make sure the observer was working properly. While Elaina practiced archery in the snow on one wall, scenes of soldiers training flashed on another. Finally, Master Crevan was in a large, open room with golden doors.
