18:5 Walking with God Beneficence—God’s best interests for his people—is a consistent theme of the Levitical law. Obeying the law brings life! Every law God gave was given for his people’s good. But we fail to obey so often. Jesus came to fulfill the law because sinful humans are incapable of doing so (Matt 5:17).
18:6-20 Sexual Abuse God gave very specific laws prohibiting sexual abuse of relatives. God understands the pain that sexual abuse by a family member causes and the long-term damage that it can do. Women and children with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to abuse, especially in developing countries where they are hidden away from society. If you have suffered sexual abuse, know that God cares for you and hears your cries. As Christians, we are called to advocate for those who suffer in this way and not simply turn the other way.
