28:5-7 Allowing Fear to Control Saul allowed his fear to lead him to do that which he himself had forbidden others to do and which he knew to be a profound evil expressly prohibited by God’s law. His desperate attempt to control the outcome of events was doomed from the outset and left him just as “paralyzed with fright” (28:20) as before. If we allow fear to drive our actions, it can drive us into unimaginable depths of sin and wickedness.
