4:4 Challenges of Disability As a result of an accident at the age of five, both of Mephibosheth’s feet were seriously and permanently injured. Mephibosheth’s disability would have significantly impacted his ability to make a living and provide for himself, particularly in the agricultural society in which he lived. Similar challenges persist for people with disabilities today.
4:9-12 The Lord Our Savior Perhaps informed by his own experiences of unjust suffering, David’s chief concern here is for justice. These two assassins have “killed an innocent man in his own house and on his own bed” and therefore deserve to be executed (4:11). Instead of relying on human cunning, David keeps his focus on the Lord, who alone “saves me from all my enemies” (4:9). We, too, do well to remember that it is the Lord who rescues us from our troubles, not our own strength or ingenuity.
