2:2-6 Staying Close Elijah and Elisha had bonded. Elisha stayed close, knowing Elijah would be taken from him that day. In a fast-paced, globalized world, people with disabilities can find themselves socially isolated and alone. Choose someone as a friend and remain true to them; by staying close, you are sending a clear message: “You matter.”
2:3-18 Earthly Good-byes Elijah’s departure from earth was supernatural and sudden. Elisha was distressed (2:12), and those around him struggled to process the disappearance as well (2:16-18). To live is to leave—friends after a meal, parents as you grow up, places when you move on, and earth when you die. But for the Christian, to leave earth is to arrive in heaven—a glorious hope!
