21:1 Beware the Enemy Even the most mature among God’s people experience temptation in this life (1 Cor 10:13). David himself, the “man after [God’s] own heart” (Acts 13:22), could be led into sin by Satan. All of us should be careful to not let Satan “outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes” (2 Cor 2:11).
21:24 The Cost of Ministry David insisted on paying full price for Araunah’s field because he refused to offer a sacrifice to the Lord that cost him nothing. It is in the very nature of a sacrifice that something is given up. If it doesn’t cost you anything, it isn’t a sacrifice. When ministering to others who are suffering, remember that despite the cost, God is worthy of that cost and “rewards those who sincerely seek him” (Heb 11:6).
